Caprese Salad with Fresh Garden Tomatoes and Basil

This simple salad is so nutritious and delicious you may be tempted to eat it every day. It’s usually served as an appetizer, but when tomatoes and basil are in season at En Saison, we’ve been known to eat it for breakfast! Caprese salad is a great option when entertaining—it not only tastes great but is a visual stunner too.

What you’ll need:

One fresh mozzarella log (Make sure to use fresh mozzarella, which is soft. The kind you shred for pizza or lasagna won’t taste good)

A few ripe tomatoes

Fresh basil leaves

Balsamic glaze (we use Trader Joe’s Balsamic Glaze for its sweet delicious flavor)

Avocado slices (optional)

How to make it:

Alternate layers of tomato and fresh mozzarella on a serving plate. Tuck basil leaves in and around the slices. Add a few avocado slices around the plate (if you’d like). Drizzle with streaks of balsamic glaze and prepare yourself for addiction.
